Symptons of MSUD
Causes, Incidents, and Risk Factors
Maple Syrup Urine Disease is caused by gene defects in BCKDHA, BCKDHB, DBT, and DLD genes and is an inherited disease in which both parents have one copy of the mutated gene, but do not show signs of MSUD, another name for Maple Syrup Urine Disease.
Some incidents that can come from Maple Syrup Urine Disease, if not treated, are coma, death and brain damage. The brain damage can come from physical stress, such as fever, infection or long periods of not eating.
Risk factors for Maple Syrup Urine Disease are high amounts of leucine, isoleucine and valine in a persons blood stream, which is not good for the brain and can cause many health problems sooner or later in life. Another risk of having MSUD is physical stress over different points in time that can cause mental retardation.
